Ground Report Update from El Fasher, North Darfur

(Kampala) – On May 21, 2024, at 9 a.m., the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stationed on the northeastern side of the Abu Shouk camp fired bullets and bombs. One of the bombs exploded in shelter center number 14 of Al-Salam Primary School for Girls in Block 20, injuring a child and leading to the amputation of her leg. The school was hosting displaced people at the time.

Around 1 p.m., skirmishes broke out between the RSF, joint forces, and the army east of El Fasher city. These clashes resulted in fires in the eastern neighborhoods of the city.

Around 2 p.m.: Another bomb struck the shelter center of Al-Timanat Primary School for Girls in the Al-Amal neighborhood. This bomb originated from RSF positions on the eastern side of the city, targeting civilian residential neighborhoods, shelter centers, and displaced persons camps.

Around 3 p.m., A Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) warplane bombed areas southeast, east, northeast, and north of the city, approximately 5 km away from the center.

This situation underscores the ongoing conflict and its severe impact on civilians, particularly those in shelter centers and displaced persons camps. The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) appeals to the RSF and SAF to refrain from targeting civilian populations and calls on the international community to intervene.
