(Kampala) – On 26 August 2024, The conflict in Sudan continues to escalate, with both sides intensifying their attacks in various parts of the Darfur region. On 26 August, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) launched sustained airstrikes on Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, resulting in the deaths of several displaced persons and leaving many others wounded. The precise number of fatalities and wounded are yet to be determined.

Simultaneously, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are relentlessly bombing El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, particularly targeting the northern and northeastern areas of the city. The RSF’s indiscriminate shelling has struck vital areas, including the Police Hospital and El Mawashi Market, causing widespread displacement as residents flee to seek safety in other regions.
For the Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR), communication blackouts and poor network conditions severely hamper efforts to obtain detailed information from the ground. Despite these challenges, the DNHR’s field office remains committed to gathering and disseminating accurate reports.

The DNHR urgently appeals to all parties involved in the conflict to refrain from targeting civilians and displacement camps. The network also calls on the international community to intervene swiftly, as the situation is rapidly deteriorating and already dire.
