DNHR Welcomes the Report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan

(Kampala, September 6, 2024) – The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) welcomes the release of the report by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan (FFM), which was established by the UN Human Rights Council in response to the devastating armed conflict in Sudan that began in April 2023.

The Mission, composed of three committed experts, has been working tirelessly to investigate widespread human rights violations and related crimes despite facing challenges, including the delayed establishment of its Secretariat in May 2024. DNHR recognizes the Mission’s essential role in uncovering the truth behind atrocities committed by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the conflict.

DNHR strongly advocates for the extension of the Mission’s mandate, given that violence and human rights abuses continue unabated in Sudan. Continued investigations are vital to ensuring accountability and delivering justice for the victims of these atrocities.

This critical work supports the rights and safety of the affected populations and is a crucial step toward holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions. DNHR remains committed to providing evidence and reporting from the ground to support the Mission’s efforts and emphasizes the need for sustained international support to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
