North Darfur State:
On the evening of Friday, 13th September 2024, a Sudanese Armed Force (SAF) warplane launched an airstrike on the Al-Gadi area, located east of the central market in El Fasher, North Darfur State. The bombing resulted in injuries to six civilians, including one man and five women. DNHR field offices were unable to gather additional details on the extent of the injuries.
The following day, 14th September 2024, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fired over 40 rockets in a morning attack targeting southern and southeastern areas of El Fasher, including Al Azama, Al Birinjia, Al Tijania, and Al Salam. The indiscriminate shelling led to significant civilian property damage. Among the structures destroyed was the home of Juma Omar Adam in Al Birinjia. Additionally, two vehicles were damaged in the same area. Several civilian casualties were reported, with one confirmed fatality, Mutaz Mohammed Shomo, a 30-year-old resident of Al Birinjia neighborhood, who was killed as a result of the RSF’s indiscriminate attacks.

On 13th September 2024, during an exchange between the RSF and the SAF, warplanes repelled an RSF offensive targeting Hai Elgadi, located west of the main market. The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of six civilians and multiple injuries. Later that evening, around 5:00 PM Sudan local time, RSF attempted to infiltrate El Fasher city to rescue remaining personnel from their forces who had escaped from the previous day’s battle on 12th September 2024. These RSF forces had taken cover in civilian properties near the southern hospital when clashes broke out between them, the SAF, and other joint forces.
The situation remains dire, with civilians in the affected areas losing their lives and property amid escalating hostilities. The true number of victims is yet to be verified.
Central Darfur State:
On the morning of Friday, 13th September 2024, two young boys were shot and injured by an armed group while travelling from Delaij town in the Wadi Salih locality to Gheinyo village within the Delaij administrative unit, Central Darfur State. Abdulwahid Ibrahim Ishag Mohammed, aged 16, sustained an injury to his knee, while Bughari Ishag Mohammed suffered a more serious wound to his thigh. Both victims were taken to Delaij Hospital, where Abdulwahid’s condition was stabilised, but Bughari remains in critical condition.

In another incident in the same locality, an armed group affiliated with the RSF looted the village of Ali Abaih, stealing two jerry cans of oil and a 50 kg sack of sugar.
The situation in Darfur is rapidly deteriorating, with escalating violence causing severe harm to civilian populations across both North and Central Darfur. Civilians are bearing the brunt of the conflict, facing indiscriminate attacks, loss of life, destruction of property, and looting. The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and human rights standards.
Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) urgently calls for immediate intervention from the international community and all relevant actors to halt the ongoing violence, protect civilians, and work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Darfur and Sudan as a whole. Accountability for human rights violations must be ensured, and urgent measures are needed to secure the safety and security of civilians in the region.
