Update on the Security Situation in Mukjar Locality, Central Darfur State:

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) has reported escalating human rights violations in the Mukjar locality, Central Darfur, under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 15, 2024. These abuses include arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial killings, and widespread displacement, exacerbating the region’s humanitarian crisis. Communities face threats such as forced labor, restricted movement, and extortion for protection.

On November 3, 2024, in Sindo Village, Mukjar locality, an RSF member shot three civilians from the same family, including an 18-month-old child. The incident began over a financial dispute between the perpetrator and Abduljabbar Osman Mansour, a 29-year-old farmer. When Abduljabbar inquired about repayment, the RSF member shot him in the lower abdomen. Abduljabbar’s brother, Abdulrahman, was shot in the toes while intervening, and Abdulrahman’s son, Mohammed, was shot in the chest. Abdulrahman and Mohammed were transferred to Nyala Hospital in South Darfur for further medical treatment.

Despite civilians filing a report with the RSF under Lieutenant Younis Hajak, no action was taken to apprehend the perpetrator or secure the scene, raising serious concerns about the security and safety of citizens in Mukjar and surrounding areas.

This attack is not isolated. In August 2024, a citizen was killed in Mukjar city by armed men affiliated with the RSF, underscoring a pattern of human rights violations and a lack of accountability for perpetrators. Additionally, reports indicate that five children died of starvation in Mukjar camps in August 2024, highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis in the region.

DNHR urgently calls for immediate regional and international intervention to halt these human rights violations, restore peace, and ensure the security of the affected populations.

Without intervention, continued human rights violations and humanitarian crises could risk more citizens’ lives. There is an urgent need for action to restore safety and order in the region, including holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring the protection of civilians. Regional and international attention and support are crucial to address these challenges and prevent further escalation of violence and suffering.
