The security situation in Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State, has significantly deteriorated, with civilians facing daily threats to their lives and well-being. In a recent tragic incident, three unarmed young men were fatally shot while sitting in front of their home in Zalingei.
One died immediately, and the other three succumbed to their injuries the following morning they deaths.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have established control over most parts of Zalingei, excluding the garrison and its surrounding areas. Communication networks, including the internet, remain disrupted, isolating residents from the outside world. The RSF has also imposed a siege on the cities of Nyala and Zalingei from 6 pm no freedom of movement for approximately a month, leading to severe deterioration in humanitarian conditions within the camp.
Reports indicate that Zalingei and Nyala have become perilous environments for unarmed citizens, HRDs, and activists who are subjected to killings and assaults on a daily basis, rendering life unbearable. The population is experiencing acute shortages of food and water, the spread of diseases, and a lack of essential healthcare services.
The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) reports a concerning pattern of RSF forces systematically targeting youths not affiliated with them, placing many at significant risk. The DNHR continues to urge all parties involved in the conflict to engage in peace talks, respect international humanitarian laws and human rights governing warfare, and ensure the protection of civilians.
