RSF attack on 16-year-old in Mershing, Darfur

On the evening of Saturday, December 21, 2024, Mohammed Mubarak Ibrahim, a 16-year-old boy from the Fur ethnic group, was attacked by armed members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Tiha neighborhood of Mershing locality, South Darfur State. The incident left him with severe injuries after he was shot and both his legs were broken.

Local reports indicate that Mohammed was on his way home when RSF-armed individuals targeted him. This unprovoked attack is part of a troubling pattern of violence against civilians in Darfur, which has caused immense suffering for communities across the region.

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) unequivocally condemns this act of violence and calls for a prompt and transparent investigation to ensure accountability. DNHR stresses the need for immediate action to protect civilians, particularly vulnerable groups like youth, and to stop the deliberate targeting of unarmed individuals in the region.
