SAF Missile Strikes Destroy Government Buildings in East Darfur.

SAF Missile Strikes in East Darfur

March 16, 2025 (El Daein, East Darfur) – A series of missile strikes hit government buildings in El Daein, East Darfur, on Sunday, raising serious concerns over civilian safety. Eyewitnesses reported three explosions targeting the East Darfur government headquarters and health insurance offices, which had been under Rapid Support Forces (RSF) administration.

Similar missile strikes hit Nyala, South Darfur, on March 14 and 16, targeting Nyala International Airport and the Social Security Hotel, both used by the RSF. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) claimed responsibility, stating that they struck RSF military positions in El Daein and Nyala.

An RSF commander alleged that the army used ballistic missiles in Nyala instead of airstrikes to avoid RSF’s anti-aircraft defenses. If confirmed, the use of long-range guided missiles would mark a dangerous shift in Sudan’s war tactics.

These attacks come as RSF leaders and allies prepare to form a parallel government in Nyala. The destruction of health services and public infrastructure has worsened the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, where displaced populations already face severe food shortages and lack of medical care.

Call for Urgent Action

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) strongly condemns attacks that harm civilians and destroy essential infrastructure. We call on all warring parties to respect international humanitarian law (IHL) and protect civilians.

The international community must act urgently to prevent further escalation and hold those responsible for war crimes accountable. Every delay in action costs innocent lives.
