Update:  from Tawala camp  in North Darfur

On July 17, 2025, North Darfur – El Fasher and Tawila IDP Camp, The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) expresses deep concern regarding the escalating and systematic violations of human rights committed by elements of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur, particularly around El Fasher and the Tawila camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

A recently circulated video has surfaced as chilling evidence of the RSF’s brutality and disregard for civilian dignity and safety.

Perpetrators: Three RSF fighters, not wearing official RSF uniforms, but carrying firearms. A farming area near El Fasher; the victims are believed to be IDPs from Tawila camp. Two civilian farmers encountered the RSF while working on their land.

The RSF members threatened farmers at gunpoint. They ordered the civilians to flog themselves, saying, “Whip a slave by the slave.” The act was filmed and shared as a tool of psychological intimidation. The threat was explicit: if the civilians refused, they would be executed.

Dehumanizing Language and Conduct: The use of the phrase “Whip a slave by the slave” is racially and culturally degrading, invoking language that reinforces a system of domination and humiliation, particularly targeting vulnerable ethnic and displaced populations

Conclusion

This incident is not isolated but part of a broader and disturbing pattern of systematic abuse and terrorizing of civilians in Darfur.

DNHR reiterates its call for urgent international attention to the unfolding crisis in North Darfur and the protection of civilians from ongoing RSF atrocities.
