Shangil Tobai, North Darfur

Fresh violence erupted on Saturday, 4 October 2025, in Shangil Tobai Administrative Unit, Dar Al-Salam locality, North Darfur State, after a clash inside Nifasha Camp between small truck drivers escalated into a broader assault by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began around 4:00 p.m. when two businessmen from the Arab community entered the camp to buy goods. A dispute broke out among the loaders, resulting in the death of one of the drivers and injury to another. The seller involved in the incident  a man from the Fur community, was subsequently arrested by RSF soldiers and taken to an unknown location.

Shortly afterward, RSF troops stormed Nifasha Camp, deploying more than 15 four-wheel-drive vehicles, and began beating residents, including young men and traders. At least five civilians were arrested, including Ezzedine Adam Yahya and Saleh Adam, while three loaders and other camp residents were detained and taken to Shangil Tobai, an area currently under RSF control.

The RSF forces have reportedly occupied Akmar Secondary School and the local administration headquarters (DDA), where they remain stationed. Community sources report that RSF commanders have threatened to destroy the camp unless local leaders “hand over” all traders.

Markets within Nifasha, Shaddad, and Shangil Tobai camps have since closed, as fear spreads among displaced residents. The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) strongly condemns this escalation and reiterates that attacks on displacement camps, the detention of civilians, and the occupation of schools and humanitarian facilities are grave violations of international humanitarian law.
