(Kampala) – On June 18, 2024, the Abu Shouk Internally Displaced People (IDPs) camp in Al Fasher locality, North Darfur state, came under heavy weapons attack by the RSF. This assault resulted in the deaths of 17 individuals, with most of the victims being children and women. The attack also left more than twenty people wounded.

The number of destroyed houses totals ten completely demolished, five partially standing, and one private clinic has been affected. The assault took place in blocks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 22 of the camp.
The total number of deaths confirmed by the Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) due to this attack has reached 17 and may further increase. Additionally, many have been severely wounded. Due to a communication blackout, it is challenging for DNHR to obtain information from IDP camps in El Fasher. One local source who spoke to DNHR mentioned that the RSF is desperate to take control of the city and is killing everyone to assert dominance.

This attack highlights the contemporary conditions in the city of Al Fasher and the increasing danger for IDPs and civilians who have been under siege by the RSF. DNHR urgently appeals to the international community to intervene as soon as possible and also calls on the RSF to cease targeting the civilian population and to allow humanitarian aid access.
