Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) – 20 August 2025
On 19 August 2025, fighters from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) ambushed the agricultural community of al-Ghabshan al-Maramrah in North Kordofan province, killing at least seven civilians, including two children, and wounding 13 others.
According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the RSF looted properties, burned several houses, and destroyed the village’s only health care center, stealing vital medical supplies. Residents described the attack as devastating for a community already struggling under the wider conflict.
The assault is part of the RSF’s broader attempt to seize control of the oil-rich North Kordofan region following recent military setbacks against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Local activists report a wider pattern of escalating violence. In July, RSF fighters killed more than 450 civilians in the nearby village of Shaq al-Num, including 35 children, in one of the deadliest incidents documented this year.
The Darfur Network for Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. These attacks are part of a consistent pattern of atrocities across Sudan that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law.
DNHR calls for immediate independent investigations, accountability for perpetrators, and stronger international measures to ensure the protection of civilians in North Kordofan and other conflict-affected regions.
