Dozens Abducted from Abu Shouk Camp as Violence Escalates in El Fasher

More than 50 civilians, including women, children, and elderly individuals, have reportedly been abducted from Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher by armed elements believed to be affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)

According to verified field reports, the abductees were taken to a house in the Riyadh neighborhood, northeast of the city. The RSF reportedly claimed to be “rescuing” civilians from areas under joint control of the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied groups. Several individuals were later released, though the exact number and circumstances remain unclear.

The abductions are believed to have taken place between August 23 and 25, following increased RSF incursions into parts of the camp. Those taken reportedly include civilians with medical conditions or injuries linked to recent artillery attacks.

This incident comes amid escalating military activity in and around El Fasher, the last major city in Darfur still under army control. Abu Shouk, home to tens of thousands of displaced families, has faced repeated assaults in recent weeks, deepening concerns over the safety of its residents.

There are also unconfirmed reports of over 20 additional civilians still missing, raising fears of further detentions or enforced disappearances.

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) has expressed deep concern over the continued targeting of displacement sites and calls for immediate measures to safeguard civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.

DNHR continues to monitor and document ongoing patterns of violence affecting displaced communities in North Darfur.
