On 19 October 2025, approximately 70 families fled El-Fasher city in the morning, heading toward Tawila. Upon reaching Shagra Village, they were intercepted and escorted by RSF soldiers, who were reportedly recording videos of the displaced civilians. 

At Garni, about 20 km west of Shagra, the group encountered an RSF checkpoint. According to eyewitnesses, RSF personnel searched all civilians and demanded a payment of 200,000 Sudanese Pounds per family to allow them to pass. A survivor informed DNHR that “we left around 30 families at that checkpoint because they couldn’t pay the money.” 

In addition, three cases of rape were reported among the displaced women at Garni. After passing through the checkpoint, the remaining families continued for about five kilometers, where they encountered humanitarian organizations with trucks that helped transport them safely to Tawila. 

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) strongly condemns the abuse and extortion by RSF against displaced families fleeing Al-Fasher. We call authorities and the international community to hold the perpetrators accountable and protect civilians on evacuation routes.
