The Situation in two states south, and East Darfur.

July 17, 2023 (Kampala). We at the Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) are deeply concerned about human rights violations in the Darfur region of West Sudan.

On July 16, 2023., an attack took place at 5 am in Kass locality Nyala South Darfur, with light and heavy weapons, on the headquarters of (Brigade 61 Kass locality) by the Rapid Support Forces RSF and Arab militias. With Arab militias, they appeared, riding on motorcycles and camels. The neighborhoods of Kass Kabir, wahda ,al Zahra west school, wada west, Ahmed Romat grav ,Beatry for IDPs camp, the areas of Al-Amarah, Al-Kifah, and Al-Salam, and part of the large market were looted.

The situation in Kass locality is currently unstable, with intermittent gunfire in the leadership and the large market and reports of looting and violations in some neighborhoods. Eyewitnesses have reported that six civilians including women were killed and the number of civilian casualties, injured and missing.

Since Starday, July 15, 2023, civilians in the Kass locality of south Darfur Nyala have lived in critical conditions. Because of the RSF siege, they were unable to escape, and allied Arab militias wanted to attack the SAF headquarters in Kass.

Approximately 40 kilometers from west Nyala, the Kass locality in south Darfur was attacked by the RSF and Arab militia at 5 am on Sunday, July 15, 2023; heavy weapons were used by the RSF and allied Arab militia to loot and destroy civilian property, kidnap women, and kill hundreds; since the attackers continued fighting nonstop, we do not have specific figures on how many civilians died.

Central Darfur zalligei. There has been no communication via the Internet for more than 65 days, but our monitors in Nyala South Darfur report that people are suffering from malnutrition.

In addition to committing many crimes and violating human rights against civilians, including women and children who were not protected, RSF and allied militias controlled all of the city and surrounding territories, including Wadi Sallah, Mukgar, Bendesi, Qarsala, and Dealige. No food, water, or healthcare was destroyed, and no hospital was available to treat wounded patients.

Today, at East Darfur El Dean, around 2 p.m., the Central Reserve Forces (CRF) announced an alliance with RSF to fight against SAF. Moreover, the Rapid Support Forces RSF are grateful for the support of 51 officers, non-commissioned officers, and Armed Sudanese Forces (SAF) soldiers in the 16th Nyala Division in South Darfur, led by Major Jumma Abdullah Mohamed. They announced today at 4 pm that they would join the Rapid Support Forces with full armament and military equipment. This is dangerous because all Arab tribes are working with the SAF, but now the RSF is allied, and militias are fighting the SAF. Over the past few months, 22 Arab tribe leaders have joined forces with RSF.

Sudanese will be severely impacted by this conflict, spreading tribal conflict throughout the country, resulting in more human rights violations. The UAE established A new airport at the border between Chad and Sudan to support technical assistance with weapons and treatment of RSF and militia wounded in Darfur. Darfur may be threatened with unification in the future due to this.
