Bodies Pulled Out of Well Serve as Evidence of Killings in Areas Recaptured from RSF Forces.

March 17, 2025

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) strongly condemns the recent atrocities uncovered in Sharg Elnil, Khartoum, where Red Crescent volunteers discovered the bodies of at least 15 victims in a well. Reports indicate that most of the victims had been executed with gunshots to the head, while others showed evidence of being thrown into the well alive. Additional bodies were found along roadsides and hidden in basements, with some victims bound before their deaths. These acts reflect a systematic pattern of extrajudicial killings and gross human rights violations.

This discovery follows the recapture of Sharg Elnil by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) after nearly two years of control by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Testimonies from local residents, including Hussein al-Faki, reveal that during RSF occupation, civilians were prevented from burying the dead under threat of violence. This further underscores the brutality suffered by the residents under RSF rule.

The DNHR calls for an immediate, independent investigation into these killings, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. We urge Sudanese authorities, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities.

The ongoing war in Sudan has already inflicted immense suffering on civilians, and these latest findings in Sharg Elnil highlight the urgent need for justice and accountability.

DNHR remains committed to documenting human rights violations and advocating for the rights of victims in Sudan.
