April 12, 2025, The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) strongly condemns the renewed attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) this morning and evening on Zamzam IDP Camp in North Darfur, which led to the killing of 6 humanitarian staff members from the Relief organization while they were performing their duties to support displaced civilians amid a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
The confirmed names of the victims are:
1. Dr. Mahmoud Babiker
2. Ali Musa Issa
3. Mohamed Ahmed Hashim
4. Martyr Adam Babiker
5. Mutwakil (Kola)
6. Abu Asha
The deliberate targeting of civilians and humanitarian workers constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions and amounts to a war crime that requires urgent accountability.
Zamzam Camp shelters hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons and has been under siege and repeated attacks in recent weeks, depriving residents of food, water, and medical care. This dangerous military escalation only deepens civilian suffering and undermines all ongoing humanitarian efforts.
DNHR calls for the following:
• An immediate end to attacks on camps and civilian areas
• Safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to all affected populations
• An urgent international investigation into these crimes and prosecution of those responsible
• Stronger engagement by the United Nations and the African Union to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities
The ongoing silence of the international community in the face of what is happening in Darfur today risks repeating the tragedies of the past. The world must fulfill its moral and legal obligations.
