This joint letter, endorsed by more than 30 leading international humanitarian and human rights organizations, calls on President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to seize a critical diplomatic opportunity to help end the devastating conflict in Sudan. As the war enters its third year, Sudan faces one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with mass civilian casualties, widespread displacement, targeted violence in Darfur, and a collapsing food and health system.
Published in the lead-up to the 2025 Gulf-US Summit, this appeal urges the United States to leverage its influence with key regional partners—including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Egypt—to immediately de-escalate the conflict. These countries, which have played various roles in backing the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are in a unique position to shift the trajectory toward peace.
The letter emphasizes that U.S. leadership remains indispensable in steering the international community toward a peaceful resolution. It advocates for a civilian-led democratic transition in Sudan and stresses that there is no viable military solution to the war. With the summit providing a rare and timely moment for diplomatic engagement, the signatories urge the U.S. to act decisively to avert further humanitarian catastrophe and promote long-term regional stability.
