President of Student Association of College of Health Frame faces threat.

On July 28, 2022, at 11 am in South Darfur, Nyala, Abdul Basit Osman a second-level student, at the Department of Medical Assistant, Faculty of Health Frameworks, and at Nyala University also a President of the Student Association of the College of Health Frame and human rights activist. He was assaulted and threatened by the university guard and police on the college grounds. This was because he led and organized college students to demand the resumption of studies that had been suspended for years in the college.

Also, the protest was to demand improvement of the university environment and facilities such as water facilities among others; this protest lasted for more than three months, and as a result, university studies were suspended.

Students confirmed to the DNMD monitors on the ground that the police forces used excessive violence against students in a brutal manner.

Therefore, Darfur Network Monitoring Documentation (DNMD) is deeply concerned about such behaviors, and attacks against students which are considered violations of rights example Confiscation of freedom of expression for young people.

DNMD calls up GoS of South Darfur state responsible for Students to protect them and allow their Freedom to Speech and also take urgent steps to prevent human rights violations to the students in universities.
