South Darfur’s militias and the RSF have killed, kidnapped, and arrested lawyers.

Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) is condemning in the strongest terms the ongoing human rights violations in the Darfur region, especially crimes of killing, kidnapped, arresting, and rape, widespread sexual violence, and threats HRDs by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias.

On August 3, 2023, in the Hi Alrahman area, Nyala South Darfur kidnapped Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdullah, 54 old, a lawyer. Adam Omar Jad Al-Rab,53 old human rights activist, found their bodies on Nyala El-Fasher Road , on Friday 4th of August,2023, at 9 am by the Rapid Support Forces RSF and militias. It is mentioned that the two deceased were kidnapped in front of their house in the Al-Rahman neighborhood by Land Cruiser, and the kidnappers demanded (30) million Sudanese pounds. A financial ransom in the evening of the same day

Their families told Darfur Network for Human Rights DNHR that the militias requested more than 30 million Sudanese pounds for their release. The family of the two deceased went to the headquarters of the Rapid Support Forces RSF in Nyala to inquire about them, and they replied in the negative. They said that the kidnappers were criminals who did not belong to them.

 According to eyewitnesses from the al-Rahman neighborhood, the kidnappers are dressed in Rapid Support Forces RSF uniforms and armed with an M16 weapon with a Land Cruiser, a vehicle plate number belonging to the Rapid Support Forces.

Furthermore, On August 2, 2003, at 9 pm in the Raiq neighborhood, South Darfur Nyala, Mr. Adam Mohamed Sharif, 56 old, a lawyer, was arrested from his home by the Rapid Support RSF and Militias Forces., Mr. Adam is the Darfur Bar Association DBA head in South Darfur Nyala. Several citizens were arrested and taken to the Rapid Support Forces headquarters at night. Their families could not visit them to discover their detention conditions and provide medicine to the sick.

August 4, 2023, Central Darfur, Zalingei Ali Yagoub, the leader of RSF in Central Darfur’s Zalingei, claimed in a video that his group had taken control of all the cities in Zalingei and surrounding. Witnesses from central Darfur have reported that RSF and its allied militias have committed crimes against civilians, such as killing, wounding, kidnapping, arresting, destruction of civilian properties, looting, and sexual violence.

The Darfur Network for Human Rights has received more evidence from HRDs, and human rights monitors, in central Darfur that these groups are threatening them. Because of these threats, some have left their work and have become refugees in the neighboring countries.

The situation in nyala city and the surrounding locality of south Darfur are critical Civilians are still facing killing, and threats, especially Human rights activists, due to clashes between SAF and militias within and outside of the city to commit human rights violations. 

DNHR calls upon the international community to immediately stop violations against innocent civilians in the Darfur region. These violations of human rights must be held accountable to justice.
