Extrajudicial Killings in Khartoum Following SAF Recapture

On April 4, 2025, in Khartoum, Sudan The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) is deeply alarmed by credible video footage and eyewitness reports confirming widespread extrajudicial killings of civilians in Khartoum after its recapture by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on April 2, 2025.

One eyewitness, who spoke anonymously for their safety, described the aftermath in the Shambat neighborhood:

“There were bodies in the streets. Some of the victims had their hands tied. They were executed without trial. People are afraid even to collect the dead.”

DNHR has reviewed multiple video clips showing uniformed SAF soldiers firing at unarmed civilians, including individuals who appeared to be detained or restrained. Other footage reveals civilians being beaten, forcibly taken, and disappeared, their fate still unknown.

These actions may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law.

“Extrajudicial killings are serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law,” said a DNHR spokesperson. “Individual perpetrators, as well as those with command responsibility, must be held accountable for such unacceptable actions under international criminal law.”

DNHR reiterates its calls for:

  • An urgent and independent international investigation into the killings.
  • Access for humanitarian and human rights observers to affected areas.
  • Accountability mechanisms at the international level, including the ICC, to prevent further atrocities.

DNHR remains in contact with community leaders and monitors on the ground to collect more testimonies and evidence. The network urges the international community not to remain silent in the face of these violations.
